Introducing Community Connectors

An update from Co-Directors Lauren Harkness and Kylie Malcolm

There are seasons when finding connection feels difficult. A woman may be new to an area, navigating a change in her life or longing for someone to share a conversation with. Even when life is full of people and responsibilities, she can still feel lonely.

Sometimes, a gentle invitation to have a cuppa can offer a place to begin.

Through At Her Table’s Community Connectors, we help women find someone they can approach for conversation, a warm welcome or an introduction to a local gathering.

A welcoming person in your community

Community Connectors are women of faith whose welcome is grounded in recognised leadership experience or preparation through At Her Table Way. This foundation matters to us. Welcoming someone into a conversation or gathering involves care, discernment and responsibility. We want women using our Connector map to find people equipped to nurture meaningful connection.

A Connector might meet someone for coffee, introduce her to an existing group or invite a few women to gather around a table. Some Connectors host regular gatherings. Others offer a listening ear and help women discover opportunities to connect nearby.

Each contribution can reflect a woman’s gifts, community and capacity. These expressions of hospitality can be gentle and informal, while drawing on thoughtful, intentional leadership.

The place of At Her Table Way

At Her Table Way is our pathway for women who want to develop the confidence and skills to lead meaningful, faith-filled conversations and nurture community.

The course explores leadership, handling tension, storytelling, community and setting the table. It invites women to reflect on their own leadership and develop practical ways to welcome others, navigate differences and create space for honest conversation.

For women who are beginning this work, completing At Her Table Way provides the preparation to take their next step towards becoming a Community Connector.

Women already working in recognised leadership positions or serving in pastoral roles within a faith community bring an established foundation of experience. They can apply to join the network through a conversation with us about their role, community and approach to leadership.

Different gifts, shared purpose

Deirdre Herrmann is one of our Community Connectors. Through her monthly online gathering, Chat and Draw, she brings together creativity, reflection and meaningful conversation.

At Her Table Way helped Deirdre develop the confidence and structure to bring her gathering to life. Participants now have an opportunity to slow down, draw and share their thoughts in a space shaped by faith and care. Her gathering also shows how connection can reach beyond a local neighbourhood through an online community.

Other Connectors may offer a cuppa with one woman, a walk together or an invitation to come along to an existing gathering.

We value each of these expressions of hospitality. They create opportunities for women to be heard, develop friendships and explore faith at a pace that feels comfortable.

Becoming a Community Connector

We welcome applications from women of Christian faith across all denominations who are:

  • Pastors and Chaplains
  • Ministers and Deacons
  • Spiritual Directors
  • Community Engagement
  • Accredited Therapists
  • Leadership Practitioners
  • At Her Table Way participants

The application form booking link includes a $10 donation to help cover administration costs. Following your application, we arrange a cuppa with us so we can get to know you, hear about your community and explore whether becoming a Connector is a good fit.

Approved Connectors are listed on our interactive map, helping women discover someone they can contact for a conversation or connection.

Could you offer a cuppa?

As more women become Connectors, there are more places where someone looking for connection can find a welcoming person.

Perhaps, through your leadership or experience of At Her Table Way, you can picture offering that welcome to a woman in your region. You might have a gathering she could join or be able to offer time to listen and get to know her.

We would love to hear from you. Apply to become a Community Connector, and let’s begin with a conversation.

If you are feeling drawn to this work and would like preparation to begin, we invite you to explore At Her Table Way.

If you are looking for connection yourself, you are warmly invited to explore our Community Connector map and reach out to someone near you.
